When Can Conor Mcgregor Fight Again
Conor McGregor is back in light training and his UFC return is firmly on.
The Irishman is the undisputed box office king in MMA and currently holds eight of the 10 most-bought UFC pay-per-views ever.
He was forced to take some time away from the octagon after breaking his leg during the trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier last July.
McGregor has been working out since suffering the injury and has always maintained he would make a return to the octagon. In fact, he's said to be around 190lbs at present after packing on some muscle during his recovery.
UFC president Dana White has already said that McGregor will likely return in the summer of 2022 and his coach, John Kavanagh, has said they will train in January and if all goes well they'll set a date for his comeback.
But who will it be?
Dustin Poirier
UFC boss White has already suggested Poirier and McGregor will pick right back up where they left off when The Notorious is ready.
Poirier failed to capture the UFC lightweight title at UFC 269 and now facing McGregor for a lucrative fourth time to finish their trilogy the way it was meant to be done, seems a no-brainer.
Michael Chandler
The former three-time Bellator lightweight champion is definitely in the running.
Just last month, McGregor and Chandler exchanged tweets following the latter's iconic contest with Justin Gaethje at UFC 268.
The respect was evident and both men agreed to fight sometime 'down the road.'
Charles Oliveira
Yes, Oliveira is the current UFC lightweight champion and McGregor has only won a single fight since becoming double champion back in 2022 – but he's also Conor McGregor.
If Oliveira wanted it, there's almost no question that White would be willing to make the fight given the guaranteed pay-per-view numbers it would do.
McGregor is an anomaly in that respect, he won't always have to play by the same rules that everybody else does. He's already publicly stated he's gunning for the title when he returns.
Nate Diaz
McGregor said recently that the Diaz trilogy will always be there, but, by the same token, his coach John Kavanagh says that's a matchup that 'gives him nightmares.'
If McGregor is hovering around 190lbs, he'd have to trim down instead of bulk up to face Diaz this time and who knows how his body will take that.
Kamaru Usman
This one is extremely unlikely, but with McGregor, you never say never.
Both McGregor and Usman have traded insults over the past few months and McGregor has remained interested in challenging for the welterweight title at some point to become the only three-weight champion in UFC history.
The problem is, Usman is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC today and a horrible, horrible matchup for McGregor.
Of course, we'd never rule out the UFC's first-ever double champion, but guys like Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev will want a shot first.
Tony Ferguson
On paper, this would be a big fight. Both have been big names at 155lbs, but Ferguson has lost three fights in a row and didn't win a single round in the process.
He could be exactly the kind of fight McGregor needs upon his return.
Ferguson remains dangerous, but McGregor's coach has expressed an interest in seeing it and it would be a solid way to have McGregor move up from ninth in the lightweight rankings.
Every chance this fight gets made, even if the smart money is on Poirier.
